There's a lot of things that beat waking up to find NZL in 1st and 3rd place but when that NZL is at the F3J World champs and the names are Sven and Les there's really not much that compares! And when Aus is looking at singing the national anthem in their undies it's a cherry on top!

Oh My God! What an outrageous day. Bet that will make the world notice us now. Round 1 was easy for all. Round 2 Joe really earned his beer as we all had possibly the best flights of our lives, especially Sven and Scott. Mine was a little better but still thought I'd be searching the trees for my model but we got there. Round 3 wasn't too bad but still a little work to do. Scott was lucky to make it back to the field after his model started spiraling in, he got control back nursed it in to score some good team points. Lots of carnage today. Models fluttering on tow and going in. The most spectacular mid air unfortunately belongs to a couple of juniors while on tow. Both models in the trash. It gets really windy in the afternoons and today my supra wings bent a loooooong way more than ever before, did I mention our towers are brutes. Tomorrow starts with two junior rounds so we won't be flying until about 10:30 or so. Bedtime now, Les.

And this from Joe in the email after Round 2:

2nd round almost completed.

Team Kiwi has repeated with another 2998, Les and Sven getting the
elusive 1k, and Scott with a 998. They are doing a reflight, so the
overall positions are not yet known. Massive carnage in both scores
and airplanes so the Kiwi team should be moving up in the standings.
All three pilots on the NZ team had very challenging flights, and they
came through with some amazing flying! And even better, all 100
landings!!!

PS Turns out that one individual has attempted to protest my
representation as the NZ team manager. The discussions went up to the
president of the CIAM before the discussion was closed with an
affirmation of my continued team manager position.
