Unphotographed: The Hunt

Will and I put out some bread for the birds to give us something to watch from our posi on the couch. The large gathering drew the attention of Angel the neighbours lithe little black cat. She tried the run and pounce first and then the hide and sneak but her final move albeit unsuccessful was the most spectacular.
She climbed into the grapefruit tree right outside our lounge window and sat and watched and waited and waited and waited. Eventually the birds, lulled into a false sense of security, gathered in large numbers around the bread which was just under the periphery of the tree. And then she jumped down and out of the tree and into the mass. Cat went down, birds flew up... cat slunk off looking quite miffed.

Exhibition Unphotographed

I've seen a bunch of cool stuff recently that I wasn't able to take pictures of so here goes...

The photo I didn't take the other week was of a truck with a swimming pool on the back rolling down the road towards me in the car. The pool being big and wide took out a street sign which then promptly rolled across the road and landed right in front on me.

The Sunset on Monday night as I was driving up Hobsonville Rd. The sun was just about to go below the horizon and the colours were amazing... this is one of the things I really enjoyed about living at Muriwai beach.

The photos I didn't take yesterday were;

Of some Paradise Ducklings- I've never seen Paradise Duck ducklings before but I can tell you despite the fact I went past them at 100km/h I know they are seriously cute.

Of Will. Crawling, seriously crawling not the lounge lizard commando crawling that he has become so highly skilled at but real up on hands and knees crawling for the first time at Jennie and Lilly's house yesterday... way cool. There has been more today as well... it won't be long now.

I'm sure there are others but me old brain is addled. :-)

Yuk

I am used to getting puked on and snotted on, I've been weed on and I've come into contact with my fair share of Pooh. I've heard the urban legend of the woman who ate up the raisins the baby had dropped on his high chair only to find they weren't raisins. But without a doubt I have never seen so much puke from one so small and I've never had delivered directly into my eye. And that is the photo I am sure Kieran would have loved to take today!

He was wearing blue

The photo I wasn't quick enough to take today was of a boy. I saw the boy seconds after I would have liked to snap the shot. When I saw him the boy, a blonde with very short hair, was doubled over and laughing as he desperately tried to undress. A few moments earlier that boy had gone to the washing basket to locate his school hockey uniform... white shirt and blue shorts. Having found them he returned to the lounge and got changed ready for the game. At which point his sister said;

"Your wearing my netball skirt"

And so he was. Nice one Kieran.

Merroowwww Aaaaahhhgggghhhhhhh

The photos I didn't take on Thursday were of our cat Ruby who had some small and tender part of her soft furry body squashed quite harshly as Merenia stepped back from the pantry cupboard with a pouch of cat food for the expectant and apparently starving puss. The noise that Will, Kieran and I heard emanating from the kitchen was a caterwaul I have never before heard from our darling fluffy girl and stopped us all still in our tracks. Merenia, not particularly quick to pick up what was going on received one very swift and sharp swipe to the back of her ankle. And then produced a very sharp and high pitched scream which blended seamlessly with Ruby's own piercing miaou. The swipe jolted the girl and freed the cat who despite her hunger departed the house at a speed that rendered her practically invisible as she flew by. The girl much slower whose scream had subsided to loud wailing sobs, came in for cuddles while her smaller brother looked quite bemused and apparently thinking..."What the?"

The look on her face

The photo I didn't take on Saturday happened not long after I gave Merenia a new pack of beads. I brought them for her because I loved that they looked like good lollies. And so of course she pretended they were lollies and offered that sweet red and white one to her Dad. He popped it in his mouth and she looked absolutely delighted at the trick she had played. But that's not the photo I didn't take. The photo I didn't take was seconds later when Les started making choking noises the transition from delight to pure horror and absolute worry when she thought that she had caused her Dad to choke was absolutely priceless. It's lucky Les didn't fully carry out his trick as the next part was to drop to the ground... I'm not sure her little heart could have taken that!

Happy inter-National Scrapbooking day!

You'll never guess what I have been doing today.... (not much) scrapbooking but I did do a little and I am off soon to finish that page and another that I started the other day (baby WILL-ing).

I thought that I had a picture to share of the LO that I managed to sneak in last week but I guess that I didn't manage to sneak in a photo of it as well as doing it!

You can expect a lot of posts from me tomorrow to make up for my absence in the past week but in the meantime...

On Friday I witnessed a scene on New North Rd in Mt Albert. It was a stroke of fate that I managed to see it as I was so busy explaining something to Miss M that I forgot to take the Carrington Rd turn off. So I went off at St Lukes and headed down New North Rd. As Miss M has a fascination with the Emergency Services statements like "police car on your side " are oft heard in our car. (sometimes even when she's not in the car). Friday's call was "Fire engine, lights on, on my side" I looked a little harder as we drove past as the fire engine was parked. Strange I thought because it's parked beside a playground...

The photograph I didn't take was of a rocket in the playground- the type with vertical bars and about 3 stories high that the kids climb up the inside of. On the top story were two firemen on the outside of the rocket. I do believe my photograph would have captured the firemen trying to pull the bars apart to free the head of the boy who stood between them clinging grimly to the outside of the rocket that he had managed to become stuck to.

I am glad I am not that boys mother.

Three Post Thursday: One

The first photo I did not take today was my view from the tech room window. The cloudy sky made the green foliage glow and outside my window was a tall Agave plant. The kind that grow tall wide succulent leaves up from the ground with the little prickles running up each side. This plant is healthy and pure... if you didn't know better you may think it a fake for its perfect leaves. The green was a real grassy lime and it contrasted perfectly with the crown of orange that topped one leaf. A cheezel that a child, in a most likely impulsive moment, had decorated the plant with.

The second photo I did not take today was of a little boy. He was roaming jauntily across the playground at lunchtime heading from the junior school towards the library. He wore school shoes with long blue socks which were rumbled up to the middle of his calves. Not so far above the socks a pair of Black pin stripe shorts that looked to be made of good suit fabric. He shirt which hugged his skinny boyish chest was a long sleeved thermal top which had blue sleeves and a red striped body. His hair was tousled around his face and he outfit (none of which matched) was topped off by a brown cowboy hat circled with tan stars. As he walked he smiled not looking really where he was going if he even knew and flicked his head so that in one jerky movement the hat would jump off his head and then come back down to rest on it again. You could tell by the sum of him that he was happy, content this sunny school lunchtime.

happy something someone

The photo I didn't take today was of a silver late model Toyota Corolla parked in the car park of Pak'n'save Lincoln Rd. It was completely wrapped in glad wrap... A LOT of glad wrap and had a big bunch of balloons attached.

I would have loved to see the face of the cars owner when s/he got back to their car.

3 months and other ramblings

Ok I have other stuff to do but this morning is obviously a thinking morning so here are my thoughts...
I was inspired by this blog and think I may just have to add a few of those to my blog from time to time. So today, the photos that I didn't take were;
  • At school when I dropped the kids off this morning (still in PJ's again, jeese I hope the car doesn't break down one of these days)... anyway We pulled up alongside Maddy T who was wandering dreamily into school. And when she turned and saw who was in the car beside her she just cracked her massive smile that I so love seeing. She is such a sweet girl and she really does just beam when she smiles you can so tell that her joy is completely genuine.
  • The photo I didn't take on the way home was one of those classic sunbeams through the clouds shots. It's quite a grey day here (the weather obviously saw my washing load) and the sun was pretty glorious in it's efforts to break through those strong grey masses it looked awesome.
Will was (unsurprisingly) gorgeous when we got home. Today he woke at 7:15 which means that he is ready for bed again by 8:15 which is of course about 5 minutes before we jump in the car to go to school. Some days he just goes to sleep in the carseat and others like today he fights sleep all the way there and back and has a quick drink before nodding off and being put in bed. Today he fought it, we got home and I took him and lay him on his wrap on the bed. He cried for seconds and then went real quiet. I wrapped him up and he stirred a little. I picked him up and he stirred a little. I put him down and deep sleep was instant.

Merenia was being thoughtful this morning so she got me out the "Marmalade Breakfast Jam" I have to say I am glad that I am not too tired at the moment as I probably wouldn't have noticed her error till to late...

I had to laugh at this too this morning...

Lucky she's doing lots of splling practice I think.

I'm not having milk at the moment to make sure that it is not what's bothering Will- god it's hard I miss it and now crave things I hardly ever have. I'm also obviously more tired than I feel because I was seriously contemplating a cup of coffee when I was driving home this morning (I don't drink coffee) and I jumped at the chance of a Diet Coke the other day, I'm not in to Diet at all but damn it was good. And yesterday I brought chocolate raisins and I'm not that big on chocolate either. But stimulants are obviously my thing at the moment.

Will is back to spending the period from 4:30pm till 10:30/11pm awake and it's like walking up a hill that gets steeper and steeper as the night goes on. And it also trashes; a) the time that I usually relax in and. b) a big hunk of my time to be creatively productive. I have the pictures printed for the V8 album now and I want to put it together plus I have another digital album to do as well which I want to get onto. I am hanging out to get all this other stuff out of the way so I can scrapbook my family!

The kids found out what their parts are for the production on Monday, I have a Soldier and a Courtier... does that not sound like some tacky love story to you... "The Soldier and the Courtier" I can just see the cover of the Mills and Boon book now.

Finally it's the 19th so you know what that means...

The official 9:38am photo....

The unofficial 9:38am photo.

That my friends is the face of a boy filling his pants!
